This is under the 'New Revolution Art Series'. A series aimed at connecting wonderful musicians to midwest.
Pianist Matthew Shipp, born and raised in Delaware, moved to New York in 1984 and had his first album released in 1988 (a duo with saxophonist Rob Brown). Upon arriving in New York, Shipp sought out William Parker, who he knew from his recordings with Cecil Taylor; Parker later recommended him for saxophonist David S. Ware’s quartet. Shipp also joined Roscoe Mitchell’s band in the same era. As leader or co-leader, Shipp has over seventy albums to his credit. His trio with bassist Michael Bisio and drummer Newman Taylor Baker came together in 2015; their sixth album (and fourth on ESP-Disk’), New Concepts in Piano Trio Jazz, came out earlier this year.
