The Good, The True, & The Beautiful: A Halloween art exhibition by the Small Sisters

Four sisters summon the surreal, dreamlike and macabre to explore an awareness of how the strange, weird, and unknowable uphold the existence of the known and acceptable.
Light is nothing without shadow. What lies hidden in those shadows?

In traditional religious iconography and medieval art/architecture, by putting "the good, the true, and the beautiful" at the centre of meaning/importance, there are necessarily going to be odd things and strangers on the fringes. If the strange, weird, and unknown are cut out completely the system is unsustainable, so they’re woven into the whole conceptual framework in the form of gargoyles on the outside of churches, sea monsters around the edges of the known area on a map, and weird monsters in medieval manuscripts.

In our surreal, dreamlike, and macabre art we explore an awareness that the existence of what is known and generally acceptable cannot be without also there being strange, weird, and unknowable things.
