Caledonia Pack Walk

Meet us out front of the dog park at 6:00pm.

Why we started CPW-
Group walks are a great way for dogs to experience strangers and strange dogs in a safe environment. Experiencing new sights, sounds and smells is crucial in developing a dog’s ability to handle new situations. It desensitizes them to noise and distraction and helps them stay calm in crowded streets, or with other dogs.
Dogs that have been socialized young respond better to communication cues and have better social skills and like children, will learn from watching others. At group walks, they can benefit from seeing other dogs modeling sensible behavior.
It’s also great exercise. Group walks can drain a dog’s restless energy and keep them mentally and physically fit. It’s also intellectually stimulating for the dog to see different types of dogs and people.
Above all, pack walks build the bond between you and your dog.
Notice how your dog responds to the group walk and be patient and respectful.

One dog per adult handler (16+), please.
Family members are welcomed! Keep in mind, only one adult is allowed to handle the dog.

What to bring-
Please bring a pair of good walking shoes, a leash, poop bags, water, and some awesome high value treats!
If your dog behaves well on the walk, please reward him with lots of praise and cuddles, and perhaps a good treat, to reinforce the good behavior for next time!
No retractable leashes.

What to do when arriving-
We will be leaving right at 4pm, so please arrive a couple minutes early to receive direction and your ribbon.
Please keep your ribbon visible for the other members to be aware of!
💚- Dog Friendly, no signs of dog reactivity
💛- Shy/Fearful, would really appreciate the given space
❤️- Do not approach, I need my space!
❤️/💛 **Nervous dogs should be kept at a slight distance from the main group at first, and then slowly introduced if comfortable.
Dogs can always graduate to a different ribbon color with socialization over time.
This time spent waiting for the walk to begin can be exciting and stressful for some dogs, those feelings will hopefully calm down once we begin walking.

In order to keep everyone safe and to enjoy the pack walk, we need you to follow the rules.
Keep safe distance between dogs/handlers at all times.
There will be no dog face to face contact- no sniffing.
We encourage our pack dogs to be focused on the walk and their owners.

What our walk isn’t-
Our Pack Walk is structured and designed to be successful resource to properly socialize your dog.
This is NOT time for your dog to meet new dogs or a playdate.

Disclaimer-
All walks are taken at the risk of you and your dog(s). We will do our best to stick to paved and plowed trails, and avoid uncomfortable situations for you and your pet, but please be aware that you are responsible for your own safety. You may leave the walk/group at any time on your own, for any reason.

Feel free to leave a comment in the group if you have questions about the walk.

Looking forward to seeing the pups on Sunday!
