Abstract: This intermediate - advanced workshop invites fellow artists to create varying bottles or vases that develop technical skill in various shaping methods. Artist instruction, clay, tools/equipment, and reference materials are provided to assist participants in making a bottle or vase from start to finish. Stability and refined composition in taller, narrower, forms will be key areas of focus, in part with decided execution in making the piece as a group. We will begin with an introduction and discussion of the piece we will be making as a group.
After the piece is thrown, we will attempt to trim and/or carve in the same session. Refining proportions and discovering creative possibilities along the way. One week later, artists will return to glaze the piece as a final step before receiving the completed piece (post glaze-firing). Creative or individualistic decoration and design are welcome.
