Making primary assessment work

How can assessment do more than measure learning? How can it drive it? In this session, Anju and Udani share practical insights from the SPEAK (Strengthening Primary English Communicative Activity for Key stage 1) programme in Sri Lanka, developed in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Designed to strengthen English language teaching in lower primary classrooms through targeted and age-appropriate assessments, the project explored how classroom-based data can shape teaching and boost learning. Offering key strategies, practical tools and honest reflections, this interactive session will offer practical advice for anyone working to improve English teaching through more meaningful and responsive assessment practices.
