Hunter education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.

This hunter education course is geared towards youth ages 11 - 18. Participants will be active during this course from 8am-2pm and should pack a water bottle and a lunch to eat. Participants MUST register through the Iowa DNR's website: https://license.gooutdoorsiowa.com/Event/ViewEvent.aspx?id=3480
Transportation will be provided to range for live fire (participants will be transported from the Swiss Valley Nature Center to Ringneck Ridge). Limited spots are available.
