Taster Sessions for Feral Science

So excited to announce an amazing new opportunity ..... Feral Science ...... A combination of Forest School and Science lessons. Where kids are outdoors, learning bushcraft skills and also covering the various aspects of the science curriculum from KS2 right through to GCSE. We are delighted to be able to offer these sessions with Rupert Loch - a highly talented and experienced science teacher, sports coach and bushcraft instructor. We are looking to set up two groups from September. One for children aged roughly 7 - 13. This will be less structured but still cover a variety of science topics. And one for children aged 11/12 + where Rupert will be covering a large part of the GCSE Science Curriculum. We will know which topics they will be covering each week and they will be given optional homework so that they can consolidate their learning, which will be helpful for those looking to take GCSE Science.
If you are interested in finding out more, you can follow this link to Rupert's Feral Science website - https://www.feralscience.co.uk/
Please comment below if you are interested in either of these two groups for your child/ren. Please state their age and which group you are interested in. The sessions will likely run on Fridays (though do comment if you are interested but Friday's don't work for you) from St. Wilfrid's Church Hall, Kirkby in Ashfield. We will have the hall as a base for when the weather is bad but we will use the field / woodland at Titchfield Park for the majority of the time when the weather is good. The sessions may be weekly or fortnightly - depending on numbers etc. The cost is likely to be around £25 for a 3 hour session. Parents can drop off or stay. We may need a rota of parent helpers. And there may be an opportunity to combine the science session with a half Montessori day to create a full day of childcare.
(We are ofsted registered, so if you are on universal credit and eligible, you can claim up to 85% of your child's fees back or you can pay using your tax-free childcare account.)
We are offering some shorter taster sessions on Friday 18th July for just £5 so you can come along, meet Rupert and see if your children like it.
Group 1: 11 - 12.15 (ages 7-13) - Prehistory session which looks at Hunting Technologies, investigating technologies pre-archery putting these into context with early human development.
Group 2: 12.45 - 14.00 (ages 11 - 16) Water Filtration and Purification which brings in aspects of Chemistry and microbiology taking dirty water and filter it using natural materials.
Please comment below or message me on 07397955553 if you would like to book onto a taster session. Max group size is 15 and I expect these will fill up quite quickly.
If you can't make the taster session but are interested in the sessions in September, please do still register your interest so that we can contact you once things are set up.
