Killeen Creators MISSION is to foster Recovery from food insecurity, substance abuse and/or trauma through peer support, creative arts and and community engagement.
Our OAR (Operation Art of Recovery) Expressive Writing program is a veteran, poet, and Peer Support led 8-week program of Writing Lab Sessions in a trauma informed environment. Participants will hear, learn about and practice techniques in writing and reading poetry to "find" and/or develop your unique "voice", write your unique story and share your words in a supportive environment.
The Lab Sessions are facilitated by award-winning spoken word artist Richard "Shake the Poet" White and Killeen Creators' founder and Executive Director, playwright and Recovery Coach, Kristin Wright, who have both utilized writing and performance extensively in their own Recovery journeys.
Both teachers bring years of healing, writing and teaching to the program and are excited to help others find YOUR words and Voice to share YOUR story!
