Civic Matters: Contemporary Collecting

Drop in anytime 1–4 p.m. and learn more about contemporary collecting. The activities you do and the documents you create today will become the experiences and artifacts historians of the future use to tell our stories. Come find out about the practice of contemporary collecting, where museums gather current objects to store and care for them. Bring in items of your own (photos, campaign materials, protest signs, etc.) to discuss what a museum might be looking for, and how you can care for those objects on your own.

The enduring legacy of Charles Stewart and Ruth Mott is their extraordinary commitment to civic participation. From preserving our history to volunteering in community, we’ll demonstrate ways that anyone can engage in civic life. This year’s topics are focused on historic preservation and getting involved in the community where you live.

Drop in to Civic Matters anytime from 1–4 p.m. on the third Friday of the month through October. Admission and activities at Applewood are always free!
