Fleece to Fabric

Fleece to Fabric is an introductory three-part series that will interest individuals who want to learn the therapeutic, “slow”, and sustainable art of handspinning their own yarns to create knitted, crocheted, or woven items for artistic and practical use.
Part 1 introduces attendees to the glorious world of fiber, specifically wool, and why sustainable fibers are important. It includes a display of tools used to manipulate fiber and a Fiber Petting Zoo where we’ll have the opportunity to interact with different fibers that can be used in handspinning or felting to create yarn and fabric. We will also take a fun project home! *Please note there will not be animals at the Fiber Petting Zoo, just the fibers!
Part 2 is a crash course in handspinning. We’ll make our own drop spindles, focus on honing our motor skills, and eventually learning to spin our own yarn! At the conclusion of this session, participants will have the opportunity to try out a traditional spinning wheel or the library’s new E-spinner. *Attendees will have a homework assignment!
Part 3 We conclude our series! We’ve started our journey of handspinning – now what? We’ll finish our spinning, learn how to ply our work, and finish up our newly created yarn. Participants will go home with a basic understanding of the fiber world and some resources to continue their journey.
