Join us on Saturday, August 16th from 10 AM–12 PM for a small-group painting workshop led by Kit Julianto, Yooti, a full-time K-12 art teacher at the Owyhee Combined School and an enrolled member of the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Reservation.
This is a unique opportunity to learn directly from an accomplished artist and educator whose work is deeply rooted in Native American culture, storytelling, and tradition. Kit holds a BFA in Studio Arts from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe and an MFA in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University.
In this two-hour session, you'll explore the art of textured abstract painting as Kit guides participants through key techniques including expressive brushwork, color layering, and texturing with tape. You’ll also learn how to use warm and cool tones to create depth and visual impact.
Throughout the workshop, Kit will share his experiences and cultural influences that shape his creative process, offering a deeper understanding of his artistic approach.
By the end of the session, you’ll have created your own original painting to take home. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to try something new, this workshop is for you!
All skill levels and ages are welcome.
Tickets are $80 for ISHS members, and $80 for non-members). Your ticket includes the 2-hour workshop session with Kit Julianto, all quality supplies (canvas, paints, brushes, etc.), and one complimentary ticket to Kit's evening performance at 5PM, Resonance: An Evening of Music & Art with Kit Julianto.
