Keep Care: Nest Mend
Live performance by Angela Rowe
Shutter Room Gallery | 19 July 2025
As part of the Ecologies exhibition, Angela Rowe brings a mending performance into the gallery, a slow, careful act of visible mending on a fallen bird’s nest.
This durational performance is part of Rowe’s ongoing Keep Care project, which explores care, repair, and ecological grief through material gestures. Using threads, found fibres, and hand tools, the artist tends to a fragile, once-functional structure, enacting a quiet resistance to disposability and loss.
The process acknowledges the complications of restoration, the nest can no longer serve its original purpose yet it honours the labour of repair as an act of attention, presence, and hope. The work invites reflection on human entanglement in ecological systems, the limits of our interventions, and the possibility of care as a generative force.
