I’m thrilled to kick off the HD 88 Community Summer Read! This year, we’ll be reading Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World by Dr. Vivek Murthy, former U.S. Surgeon General.
Oklahoma was recently ranked the eighth loneliest state in the country, and Dr. Murthy has declared loneliness a national epidemic, linking it to serious health risks like heart disease, dementia, and depression. This book explores the connection between loneliness, health, and how we can build stronger communities.
Join us for the book discussion on Sunday, August 17th from 2–3 p.m. at Literati Press. You can check out the book from the Metropolitan Library System, purchase it from Literati Press or Bookshop.org, and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for our reading schedule and discussion questions.
Building community and reducing loneliness is a priority of mine—in and out of the Legislature. I hope you’ll join us.
