🦋 Lost River Butterfly Count 2025 🦋
Saturday, July 26
Official Count: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Tally Rally: 4:00 PM at The Inn at Lost River
Join us for a day of nature, discovery, and community as we host the 3rd annual Lost River Butterfly Count—a citizen science project led by entomologist Nate Erwin, known for making the world of insects fun and fascinating for all ages!
☕️ Start your morning with free coffee at The Lost River General Store, then meet at Kimsey Run Lake parking lot by 8:30 AM to get organized and hit the field.
🧭 Volunteers will be assigned to specific areas within the official count circle.
We’re looking for serious volunteers—those who can drive, hike, and help collect accurate data to support national butterfly monitoring efforts.
👨👩👧👦 For families with young children:
We invite you to embark on a more relaxed, self-guided butterfly adventure! Explore beautiful, butterfly-friendly locations like:
🌼 Lost River State Park
🌿 The Inn at Lost River property
🌻 The pollinator meadow behind Lost & Found Pizza & Provisions
These outings aren’t part of the official tally, but they’re a great way to introduce kids to pollinator habitats and the joy of being outside.
🦋 Then, gather with us at 4:00 PM at The Inn at Lost River for our Tally Rally—a casual wrap-up where we’ll share sightings, celebrate the day’s discoveries, and enjoy good company.
🏡 Visiting from out of town?
Make a weekend of it! Stay at The Inn at Lost River and enjoy the peaceful charm of the valley, delicious breakfasts, and a front-row seat to nature.
📩 Message us with questions. RSVP on this event post!
