Jazz at Johnstown presents My Favourite Things

Following last year's successful collaboration, uilleann piper Mark Redmond is back with the Chris Colloton Trio for a pre-Fleadh show entitled My Favourite Things. Once again the two other corners of the trio triangle are filled by Basciville duo, Lorcan and Cillian Byrne. The high point of this trad-jazz fusion concert will be a rather special re-visiting of John Coltrane's legendary take on My Favorite Things. Coltrane, along with McCoy Tyner (piano), Steve David (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums) scored a huge hit in 1961 with the tune from Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound Of Music.
The Wexford boys will use Coltrane's version as a launchpad for their own extended interpretation of the tune. And when they get to the end of that, if they ever do, they will serve up further bespoke reconfigurings of well-loved jazz and trad classics.
One thing is certain: this is sure to be one of our favourite shows of the year. Tickets now available from Johnstown Castle.
