The Roland Barber Quintet featuring Joel Frahm plays the Ned!
Jackson, TN - are you ready for jazz at a world class level?
Come out and enjoy an evening with Roland Barber and his quintet! Roland has performed with such greats as Stefon Harris, Steve Turre, Wynton Marsalis and the JLCO, Curtis Fuller, Aretha Franklin, Keb Mo, the Duke Ellington Orchestra and many others. Roland first played Jackson near ten years ago, and his last performance here was cancelled due to weather -- so the band is very excited about finally getting back to our city.
We are also excited that this show will feature the sublime tenor saxophone of Joel Frahm - a titan on the jazz scene with a world wide following! Barber and Frahm first crossed paths on the New York City jazz scene some years ago, and became fans of each other’s work. This date marks Frahm’s first appearance with Barber’s band, and it’s sure to live up to what informed fans would expect! The Band will play music from Roland’s first record, as well as new music written for this occasion. Fans can of course expect a standard or two to be treated with care, as this band speaks the history of the music just as deeply as they define the music’s present and future.
Rounding out the date, you’ll find a backing trio full of youth, verve, imagination, and savvy beyond their years. Known as “Young Professor”, Nashville’s own Jack Aylor, will play bass. Among the most talented of his generation, Christian Burgs, will play drums. Alex Murphy will bring his trademark blend of wit, adventure and soulfulness to the keys.
