July is International Zine Month!! Join Homeward Books and Desert Dragon Learning Community on Sunday morning, July 20th from 9-12, for a zine making session at Many Hands Courtyard! We’ll have supplies of everything needed for kids to craft their own zines, and (safely) carve stamps out of erasers!! ✏️ We’ll have face painting by Rose’s Dream Palette as well 🎨✨
Zines have a long history of being great canvases for creativity and platforms for underrepresented voices. Whether they’re informational, comical, or a glimpse into someone’s heart, they offer so much room for creators to share unique stories and ideas with the whole community without looming algorithms or AI data mining (booo ai). The exercise of creating a zine that represents you, your inner thoughts, and passions, belongs to kids too.
This event is aimed at elementary through high school age, but feel free to bring your Littles as well! There will be scissors and other tools within grabbing range, so you’ll want to keep your eye on them 😉
This will be mostly outdoors in our partially shaded courtyard, so make sure to bring sunscreen! Homeward Books will have free cold water bottles in their fridge 💜
