Silver Sciences: The Science of Resource Management

Active Senior Citizens are invited to delve into the science of resource management at Jennings on Tuesday, August 19 from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Join Jennings staff to survey two areas of the park affected by invasive plant species. One area has, in the past, been treated with an herbicide to control the growth of the plants while another area has not. This is the third year in a multi-year study.

Help the park better understand if this method of resource management is effective by surveying each area for plant diversity. Which area will have more species of plants? Prior knowledge of plant identification is not required to participate and all equipment will be provided.

The Silver Sciences Series is designed for active seniors who enjoy outdoor activities and wish to expand their science and nature knowledge.

This program will require the ability to walk over uneven surfaces and terrain for distances of up to a half mile at a time. Activities will also need the ability to stoop or bend.

This program is FREE but pre-registration is required no later than Friday, August 15th. Register by following the link or call the Center at 724-794-6011.

If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the park. With at least three days’ notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
