Once again Agate Encores Community Concerts is thrilled to present the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra in concert on stage in Moose Lake at the Moose Lake Community School auditorium. Mark your calendars for Sunday, 2:00, for this free concert.

The members of NSPO enjoy playing for audiences in free concerts all over the northland and we are most fortunate that they chose Moose Lake again this summer. Under the direction of Robert Lehmann, the orchestra is bringing three powerhouse orchestral selections including Giuseppe Verdi’s “Overture to Nabucco, Ethel Smyth’s Overture to “The Wreckers” and Peter Tchaikovsky’s Symphony #2. Verdi and Tchaikovsky are quite well known to the public but Ethyl Smyth is less so (1858-1944). She was an English composer and a very active suffragette who was able to break with the societal norms of her time through the encouragement of her army-general father. “The Wreckers” is one of her most acclaimed operas and is widely considered her masterpiece.

Before the orchestra concert we will welcome back Moose Lake’s “Autumn Voices” senior chorus. They will be performing some delightful and familiar pieces under the direction of Nancy Bennett. You will also be treated to a bit of Jeanne Doty’s violin virtuosity as well as some lively dance steps by a few of the members. Don’t miss it! You’d best arrive by 1:00 for that treat.
