Making Grand Rapids a Sanctuary City NOW!

Please join us in pressuring the City of Grand Rapids to adopt Sanctuary policies that will minimize the harm that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is doing to the immigrant community.

Here are the following demands we have for the City of Grand Rapids regarding Sanctuary policies:

1) policies restricting the ability of state and local police to make arrests for federal immigration violations, or to detain individuals on civil immigration warrants;
2) policies restricting the police or other city workers from asking about immigration status;
3) policies prohibiting “287(g)” agreements through which ICE deputizes local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration law;
4) policies that prevent local governments from entering into a contract with the federal government to hold immigrants in detention;
5) policies preventing immigration detention centers in Grand Rapids.
6) a policy that will not allow the GRPD to share Flock camera images with ICE or any other law enforcement agency seeking to arrest, detain and deport immigrants.

People will have a change to speak during public community and demand that they adopt the policies included here. We are also encouraging people, if they haven't already, signed on to our Action Alert messages to the Grand Rapids Mayor, the City Commission, the City Clerk and the City Manager to adopt these sanctuary policies now! https://actionnetwork.org/letters/grand-rapids-sanctuary-city-now/

Grand Rapids City Commission meetings start at 7pm, but we encourage people to come early, as the City is now limiting how many people can be in the room at one time.
