A Labor Day weekend tradition in Eau Claire is moving forward with help from the L.E. Phillips Career Development Center (CDC).
Recently, CDC formed a partnership with Special Olympics - Eau Claire Adults 3-06 to organize the Buckshot Run and add a new chapter to its decades of history at Eau Claire's Carson Park. Registration is available for the 2025 event at bit.ly/buckshot25. The two-mile run/walk will take place on Saturday, August 30 at 9 a.m.
The first Buckshot Run was in 1982. Bob Lesniewski, who was running Special Olympics in 18 counties in western Wisconsin at the time, came to Leader-Telegram sports writer Ron Buckli with the idea to organize a run. Its purpose was to raise awareness of and funding for Special Olympics.
CDC is proud to carry Bob & "Buck's" vision for the Buckshot Run on through this year's event and beyond! All proceeds will stay local and help provide necessary funding for our community's Special Olympics athletes and programming at L.E. Phillips Career Development Center.
L.E. Phillips Career Development Center was established in 1959 with a mission to provide meaningful and appropriate vocational services, employment opportunities and community outreach services for individuals with disabilities or disadvantages. Its production facility is at 1515 Ball St. in Eau Claire, WI.
