Folkloric Movement Workshops High School Edition

The Folkloric Movement Workshop is an immersive dance experience designed to celebrate and elevate culturally rooted dance forms in educational spaces. Open to students in grades 9–12 currently enrolled in a high school dance program in the DFW area, this one-day workshop offers an opportunity to explore and embody diverse global traditions through movement.

Participants will learn five distinct dances from expert teaching artists: Colombian traditional dance, Afro-Caribbean movement, Yucatán, San Luis Potosí, and “Cumbias para Zapatear” featuring original Cholorock repertory. Each class integrates cultural context with movement exploration to inspire and educate the next generation of dancers.

TADC and Creekview High School Department of Dance believe in providing students with opportunities to study culturally rooted dance while applying fundamental dance techniques, expanding their artistic perspectives, and creating future opportunities in the field. This workshop is designed to align with the Dance Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, supporting student growth in performance, history, culture, and critical analysis.
