Come learn the basics of starting and tending to a compost pile and turn your kitchen scraps into “black gold.” In this “class”, we will cover how to get a new compost pile started, how to save your scraps and add them to the pile. We will look at how your compost will look and act in the different stages of decomposition, and cover any problems to watch for in the pile and how to correct them for the best chances of success with your compost. For our compost pile in the community garden, we will go over the different ways to tend to the pile while it is cooking including turning the pile, maintaining moisture levels and when to stop adding new materials.
