Advanced Claw Setting in Two Days

This two-day class will run on two Sundays, 24 and 31 August, 10am - 1pm. It is designed for advanced students and focuses on teaching a range of claw setting techniques, along with straightforward construction methods to securely hold gemstones of various shapes and sizes. The emphasis is on mastering the techniques rather than creating polished, finished jewellery pieces.
Students are encouraged to bring along their own particular tools, metal and stones if they would like to. They can also bring their own half made ring shanks or other projects to set into.
They will start by creating claw settings for flat-bottomed stones on plate to gain an understanding of how claws work.
Students will then move on to faceted stones and be shown how to construct their own settings in a number of styles, and how to secure their stones in settings. Finally, they will be taught the dos and donβts of finishing settings to a salable level.
The workshop will also look at how to use pre-made claw settings to best advantage.
Workshop fee $245, Early bird $221 till 27 July.
