WELLSBORO, PA - From My Shelf Books and Gifts at 7 East Avenue in Wellsboro is publishing a Wellsboro focused version of the poem "Wynken, Blynklen, & Nod."
The town is known for the statue of Wynken, Blynken and Nod that is the centerpiece of The Green, a park in the heart of downtown Wellsboro.
Written by Eugene Field, the poem has been a perennial bestseller at the bookstore for almost 20 years, and is adored by locals and visitors alike.
The poem is in public domain, and the bookstore decided to do a version of its own. "My goal with 'Wynken, Blynken and Nod' is to keep the poem and its relationship to Wellsboro alive," said From My Shelf Books owner, Kevin Coolidge.
"Because I write books, I formed my own publishing house," he said. "Wynken, Blynken, & Nod" will be one of the few books that Coolidge's business will publish that he didn't actually write.
Photos are by Linda Stager of Wellsboro. Linda is an award-winning author, outdoor writer, and photographer. Her photographs can be seen in various tourism and travel brochures and on a variety of magazine covers.
She is the author of the award-winning “The Pine Creek Rail Trail Guidebook, showcasing the Pine Creek Rail Trail, a 62-mile trail that starts in Wellsboro. Her book is “Strongly Recommend”-approved by Pennsylvania Magazine.
The art in the book are photos Stager has taken of the statue and The Green during different seasons. Also included in "Wynken, Blynken & Nod” are the poem written by Field and information about him and the history of the statue.
