Introduction to Barefoot Trimming Clinic with Evan Bonner

This clinic is intended for horse owners interested in learning to trim their own horses or for those already doing so to improve their skills and further their knowledge of hoof balance and physiology. Trimming techniques and philosophy are based on the guidelines developed by the Equine Lameness Prevention Organization (ELPO). Participants will all get as much hands on training as possible. Horses for the clinic will be provided but there will be room for participants to bring their own horses as well.
Topics covered will include:
- Tool usage
- Guidelines for handling horses for the farrier
- Hoof mapping
- Grading distortions
- Trimming using distortions as a guide
- Sole depth assessment
- Understanding dorsal/palmar hoof balance
- Understanding medial/lateral hoof balance
- Using the sole as a guide for trimming
