For the grand finale of our 'Sun Days at the Ship' series....
Drum roll, please...
The Stonehouse Regatta is back!
A beloved annual tradition from Victorian times, and started by landlord of the Shipp Inn Robert Larkin (check out the Stroudwater History website for more information), the Stonehouse Regatta is making a return — and you’re invited to take part!
Sunday, 3rd August | 2:00–6:00 PM
Ship Inn Community Space at Upper Mills Bridge (opposite Wycliffe School)
Please note: No parking at the event but easy to get to by bike or on foot along the canal towpath.
On the Water:
Led by the fantastic team at Stroud Canoe Club, the regatta will feature canoe races, water polo and other surprises with qualified coaches on hand.
You’ll be on the water for about an hour, competing against other teams.
Canoes fit 2 adults or 4 small children (or 2 adults + 2 young kids)
Minimum age: 7 years
Booking required – Click below to reserve your spot!
A Nod to the Past:
The original regatta featured races, a funfair, and even Bovril bombs. There was also a brass band (see photo) — and we’d love to bring that tradition back.
Know a local brass band who might join us? Please send them our way!
On the Land:
Not keen on getting wet? No problem.
BBQ sizzling
Cold drinks flowing
Games for the kids
Music playing
Bring a blanket and your finest curly moustache to relax by the water and cheer on the racers
