Formed in 1981 by the Esser brothers, Lester and Allen, Primitive Romance emerged from the remnants of their pioneering punk band, The Strait-Jackets, in Tampa, Florida. Upon relocating to Boston, Primitive Romance quickly became a cornerstone of the local music scene. Their dark postpunk sound resonated on college radio, filled local clubs, and saw them sharing stages with iconic bands like The Psychedelic Furs, Sonic Youth, and Mission of Burma.
Primitive Romance's influence and popularity during their active years (1981-1987) left an indelible mark on Boston's music history. To honor their legacy, we are thrilled to host a listening party for the newly released Primitive Romance retrospective compilation.
