The Belmont Business Improvement District is thrilled to announce and welcome you to our annual Ferragosto Festival! Sunday, September 7th 12-6pm on Arthur Avenue at East 187th Street in the Bronx, rain or shine.� ��
Ferragosto is a way to convene our customers and supporters in a festival-like atmosphere and share what we have to offer as an authentic Little Italy. It’s a special day filled with rich culture, delicious food, live music, and amusing entertainment.
For over 25 years, we’ve waited until the Sunday after Labor Day to host the event as the weather is a bit cooler and people have returned from their summer vacations. In Italy, Ferragosto is celebrated on August 15th and marks the peak of the summer and is a time when the entire country slows down.
The holiday is rooted in ancient history, going back to the beginning of the Roman Empire, when in 18BC, Emperor Augustus declared that the month of August, named after himself, would be dedicated to the Feriae Augusti (Festival of Augustus).
