Leaf Casting 2-Day Workshop

Leaf casting, a process which uses a real leaf to make a concrete mold, creates a durable and unique concrete stepping stone or bird bath to add to your garden. Join Winneshiek County Conservation on July 29th and August 4th at 5:30 pm at the Lake Meyer Campground Shop to create your own leaf cast birdbath or stepping stone. During the first session on Tuesday, July 29th, participants will setup and pour their castings. In the second session on Monday, August 4th, we will reveal the castings and paint/seal them to take home for outdoor use.

Participants must attend both sessions. This program is for ages 8 and older. Youth between the ages of 8-15 must attend with an adult.

Materials are limited and registration is required. The materials fee is $20 per person. Payment must be made at the first session. Call Winneshiek County Conservation at 563-534-7145 to register.

Please bring a few of your own leaves if you have any! Large (about 12β€³ across), smooth leaves of hostas, cabbage, broccoli, elephant ear plants, monstera, and catalpa trees work best. Burdock and rhubarb leaves also work but are a bit more challenging to remove from the concrete cast. We will have some leaves to choose from for those who don’t bring their own.

Participants will meet at the Lake Meyer Campground Shop. Dress in clothing that can get dirty.
