Daniel Stables is a travel writer and published author based in Manchester, UK. He also writes for National Geographic and The BBC. His debut narrative travel book, ‘Fiesta: A Journey Through Festivity’ is released on August 14th 2025 (available for purchase & signing on the night). He also hosts a podcast, ‘Hungry Ghosts’, about food and travel.

In this talk, Daniel will explore just some of the highlights of the amazing cultural explorations he encountered on the journeys that underpin this book.

‘Fiesta’ explores the vibrant tapestry of human festivity, delving into the extraordinary lengths we undertake to express our cultures and commemorate life’s milestones. From drunken pilgrimages to sacrificial funerals, national days to neo-pagan necromancy, festivals represent human culture at its most vivid and varied. Daniel explores human festivity through travel narratives and insights from anthropology, history, psychology and folklore.
