Step into the bold and beautiful world of Donegal fiddle music with acclaimed fiddler Ciarán Ó Maonaigh. Known for its driving rhythms, distinctive bowing, and rich repertoire, the Donegal style is one of the most dynamic strands of Irish traditional music.
In this workshop, Ciarán will explore:
Key stylistic features of the Donegal tradition
Ornamentation, bowing, and phrasing techniques
Iconic tunes from the region’s repertoire
Open to intermediate and advanced players, this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the tradition’s finest exponents.
Ciarán Ó Maonaigh is an acclaimed fiddle player from the GaothDobhair Gaeltacht in County Donegal, known for his deep roots in the Donegal fiddle tradition. A former TG4 Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Ciarán was heavily influenced by his grandfather, the renowned musician and teacher Francie Mooney, as well as members of Altan and other Donegal greats. He is a founding member of the trio Fidil, whose innovative recordings have received widespread critical acclaim. In addition to performing and recording, Ciarán is also a documentary director & producer, bringing traditional music to new audiences through film and media.
