Join us for a captivating evening that celebrates the rich heritage of Black dance through storytelling, conversation, and performance.

The program features a special conversation with Joan Myers Brown, visionary founder of the Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO), as she reflects on her groundbreaking career and the vibrant dance scene of the 1960s and 70s that inspired the creation of PHILADANCO.

Joan will also share personal stories from her time working with the legendary entertainer Pearl Bailey, offering a unique perspective that ties into the museum’s current Pearl Bailey Showcase. Her reflections illuminate not only the world of dance but also the broader cultural landscape shaped by iconic Black performers of the era.

The evening continues with insights from award-winning dancer, Lindsay Benton, followed by an electrifying live performance by the Philadelphia Dance Company. Through powerful movement and dynamic choreography, the company will bring to life the enduring legacy and cultural impact of Black dance in America.
