An afternoon of Jane Austen's music, beginning with a short talk by Gillian Dooley about the Austen Family Music Books, followed by a concert of music for voice and harp drawn from Jane Austen’s own sheet music collection, including French, Scottish and Irish songs, some songs for children, and some that Austen’s niece remembered her singing in the last years of her short life.
Gillian Dooley, soprano, is visiting from Australia. She is the author of the recent book ‘She Played and Sang: Jane Austen and Music’ (Manchester University Press). Annemarie is a harpist based in the UK with a particular interest in the music of the Regency and Georgian period. She loves to recreate the sound of the drawing room through her antique harp.
