Notan - In black and white

Notan is a Japanese art term that literally means "light, dark harmony". Artists use "Notan" to explore the play and placement of light and dark elements as they are positioned next to each other in creative compositions.
This fun, creative workshop explores silkscreen printing using Notan compositional techniques. Berkshire Printmakers will take you through step by step how to print simple paper cut stencils using plain screens and monochrome inks to explore light and dark compositional elements. In the workshop we will explore expanding the Notan square, using symmetry and a-symmetry to "break out" of the rigid shape.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some screen printing, all paper, water based inks and our huge library of plain and patterned screens are provided
