This Manual Handling training is intended for support workers to safely and effectively perform manual handling tasks within a residential care setting or in a in home support environment.
Participants must:
have the physical capacity to perform manual handling tasks safely
Topics covered in this training are:
Examples of manual handling in the role of a support worker
Common workplace injuries
Legislation
Assessing risk
Systems approach to manual handling
Principles of manual handling
Examples of manual handling equipment
Warm up exercises
Practical assessments include:
Correct postures
Fitting and removing slide sheets
Sliding a supine person up/down a bed
Turning in bed
Sitting to standing from chair
Sitting to standing from edge of a bed
Standing transfer from bed to chair/chair to bed
Hoisting from chair to bed/bed to chair
Instructing the person to raise themselves from the floor
Hoisting a person from the floor
Support an able person to get into a car
Dismantling a wheelchair
This training is non-accredited, a Certificate of Attendance will be issued on successful completion of the training.
***Please note a minimum of two student bookings are required for this training to proceed. If this is not met, an alternative course date will be offered.
