A unique gathering of boundary-pushing artists from across the globe will take place in Belgrade at UK Parobrod on July 10th, bringing together four visionary musicians at the forefront of experimental and improvised music: Leonel Kaplan, María Mange Valencia, Ilia Belorukov, and Marina Džukljev.
Each of these artists brings a distinct voice and deep experience in sonic experimentation, and together they will create a spontaneous, unrepeatable performance where sound moves beyond structure and into raw, collective expression.
Leonel Kaplan, an Argentine trumpeter based in Belgrade, has been a catalytic force in free improvisation for over two decades. Known for his radical approach to sound and silence, Kaplan has collaborated with artists across the globe and composed for dance, film, and installation. His work is featured on iconic experimental labels like Another Timbre, ESP-Disk’, and Relative Pitch.
María Mange Valencia, a saxophonist and clarinetist from Bogotá, Colombia, merges Latin American roots with contemporary practices. She has played at major festivals across Europe and the Americas and appeared on over 30 albums, including her recent solo release on New York’s Relative Pitch Records. A former artistic director of Colombia’s Distritofónico Festival, she brings a vibrant, multi-textured approach to improvisation.
Ilia Belorukov, originally from St. Petersburg and now based in Novi Sad, Serbia, explores the outer edges of electroacoustic sound through saxophone, modular synthesis, and unconventional electronics. As a prolific performer, curator, and label founder (Intonema), Belorukov is a key figure in Eastern Europe’s experimental music networks.
Marina Džukljev, a pianist and educator from Novi Sad, is known for her inventive use of extended piano techniques and a deep commitment to collective improvisation. A frequent collaborator with Szilard Mezei and others in the European avant-garde, her work balances abstraction, physicality, and expressive depth.
This concert promises an immersive evening of fearless improvisation—an encounter where instruments speak freely, borders dissolve, and sound becomes a shared act of creation.
