Iowa’s Prohibition & Bootlegging Legacy

Join Iowa historical fiction writer, Ann Hanigan Kotz, as she takes you through the early 20th century in her program, Iowa’s Prohibition & Bootlegging Legacy. Ann begins with an overview of the eight times the state limited or banned alcohol along with the Iowans who made it happen. She continues by taking you through the distant past, beginning with the tarring of an official by the Iowa City Beer Mafia, the murder of a pastor in Sioux City, and the rumrunning of Iowa’s infamous rye whiskey in Templeton. Patrons come to understand why Iowa became a whiskey-making state during Prohibition, including the how and where of the illegal enterprise. Ann ends by discussing the current exploits of today’s underground whiskey business.
