Annual Reading of the Declaration of Independence

Come take part in a community tradition that connects us to our nation’s founding. On Wednesday, July 3 at noon, we will gather on the courthouse steps for a public reading of the Declaration of Independence—exactly 248 years after the Continental Congress approved the final wording of the document.
Anyone who wishes to read a portion will be given a section to read aloud. Whether you're 8 or 80, you're invited to lend your voice to history!
John Adams predicted this moment would be remembered forever, writing:
"It [July 4] ought to be commemorated as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts ... with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other."
Let’s honor that vision together, right here in Catoosa County.
