Creative Refuse Jam

We are teaming up with The Spare Studio to host a playful, hands-on “Creative Refuse Jam” at St. Luke’s Church in Scituate. This is a no-cost, all-ages evening of collaborative making and playful upcycling open to residents of the South Shore. There is ample parking behind the church and the playground will also be open with a theme of “junk play”.
Participants at ‘Creative Refuse Jam” will work around a shared theme to transform small pieces of everyday refuse into imaginative works of art. Please bring 5-7 small, clean pieces of refuse — such as bottle caps, bread tags, broken jewelry, buttons, fabric scraps, cardboard bits, ribbon pieces, beads, or paper packaging — to incorporate into your creation. This is all-ages, no-pressure fun for the whole family. We’re finding beauty in the mess and imperfection!
The Spare Studio is a second-hand art supply store and creative reuse center with a new Rockland location opening in July. They collect art supplies and materials for creative reuse by artists of all kinds: kids, families, professionals, and serious hobbyists. If you have unwanted art supplies to divert from the landfill, bring a box or bag with you to offload to The Spare Studio, and give these materials a second life!
