Local baseball clubs are often tied to community identity and pride. Dr. Amber Roessner will explore how Knoxville baseball clubs–from the amateur teams of the late-1860s to the modern pros, such as the Indians, Giants, and Smokies–were covered in the sports pages and how this in turn served as a community-building forum.
