*** This educational, creative & FREE whānau school holiday & Matariki Festival activity will now take place in the Auckland Central Library - see you there!

Join us for an interactive & creative journey through the hidden & visible waterways of Tāmaki Makaurau.

In this hands-on free, drop-in activity, whānau will trace the pathways of wai from freshwater sources (Waitī) to the ocean (Waitā), uncovering the history of streams once flowing beneath our city.

Using historical maps & artistic exploration, participants will map these waterways, reflect on our impact & contribute to a growing collective artwork celebrating the significance of wai in our environment.

Alignment with Matariki -

This wānanga is guided by Waitī, the Matariki star connected to freshwater bodies & the life they sustain. It highlights the deep relationship between wai & whenua encouraging us to understand & protect our water systems.

Through mapping & artistic expression, we honour the past, acknowledge our present responsibilities & look towards a future where our waterways are cherished & restored.
