The 3 Tenors, no not Pavarotti, Jorge Nila, Matt Wallace and Joe Cabral starting performing 3 Tenors 30 years ago in Omaha, as they all play tenor saxophone. At the time I was on Maynard Ferguson’s Band touring the world, Joe was living in New Orleans, where he still resides and Jorge had just moved back from NYC where he did well with David Stryker and many other heavy weight players. Jorge was recently named “Ringer of the Week” by Jazz Weekly Magazine the same year he went into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame. I would join him in the HOF class of 2022. Jorge appeared in 1989 in the Love Shack Video by the B-52’s, the same year I was on Arsenio Hall with Maynard.
Joe Cabral has been writing, singing, playing tenor and performing and recording with the Legendary “Iguanas” since 1987. In 1997 I went to 2 movies in the theater within 3 days and heard his voice on a song he wrote called “Para Donde Vas.” In the movie “Phenomenon” Forrest Whitaker, with John Travolta in the passenger seat of the car, turns on the radio and there is Joe’s voice!! A few days later during a montage in the movie “Fools Rush In” with Salma Hayek and Matthew Perry, I hear the song again. I was blown away!! I have never been so proud of a friend and colleague! Way to go Joe!
