David Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter, whose deeply human songwriting has made him “one of Canada’s most revered folk poets and singers” (Toronto Star).

Immigrating to Toronto at age twelve, Francey spent decades working in rail yards, construction sites, and the Yukon bush, quietly composing songs drawn from everyday life. It wasn’t until his 40s, with the encouragement of his wife, artist Beth Girdler, that he began performing publicly. His 1999 debut album Torn Screen Door was an instant success and launched a celebrated musical career.

Known for his poetic realism and honest storytelling, Francey has released thirteen albums, won four Juno Awards, and earned accolades including the SOCAN Folk Music Award and the John Lennon Songwriting Award.

His songs - rooted in his travels, working-class experience and love for Canada - resonate with audiences seeking meaning and connection. A compelling live performer, Francey balances heartfelt vocals with wry humour and insightful tales. He lives with Beth in Ontario’s Lanark Highlands, enjoying time with their children and grandchildren.
