Chalk it Up! returns in 2025 for a 10th year to fill Victory Park with colorful artwork and bring visitors to Vermilion to enjoy it all! This free, family-friendly event that welcomes everyone includes activities for the kids like Chalk-A-Square and other hands-on activities and chance to vote for a favorite drawing!
We’re excited to announce that Chalk It Up is back — Saturday, August 2nd in Victory Park, downtown Vermilion!
HOW IT WORKS:
Instead of chalking directly on the street, we’ll once again use chalk foam boards provided by Main Street Vermilion — prepped with black chalk paint and ready to go. You’ll also receive chalk to create your design.
You have two great options:
Option 1: Create on the Event Day
Board size: 48" x 48"
Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Location: Victory Park
Choose to work on the grass or at a table
Hairspray will be provided for layering and setting colors
Be sure to add your name to the front or back of your board
Boards will be available for pick-up starting July 2 at the Main Street Vermilion building (685 Main Street).
Option 2: Take-Home Creation
Board size: 30" x 40"
Pick up your board ahead of time from Main Street Vermilion (685 Main Street)
Create your chalk art at home
Return the finished piece the week of the July 28th
These boards will be displayed on racks in the park on August 2 (10 AM – 2 PM)
Remember to add your name to your board
*** Please have all boards turned in by August 1st so we can prepare everything for the event.

All artwork must be family-friendly and nonpolitical.
After the Event:
All chalkboards will be displayed at Ritter Public Library during the month of August.
After Labor Day:
Sponsors may keep a board
Others will be available for “purchase” through donations to Main Street Vermilion
