Are you ready for the next storytelling circle? July 3rd is, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the start of the Dog Days. In ancient times, the Greeks and Romans believed that the star Sirius, also known as the "Dog Star" (as it's the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major), added its heat to the sun's, causing the exceptionally hot weather. The ancients also associated this period with lethargy, fever, and even madness in dogs, contributing to the "dog days" moniker.
