Plein Air SmackDown XI + Porch Party

We are delighted to announce Groveland Gallery’s 11th annual Plein Air SmackDown! A playful twist on the often-competitive world of plein air painting, the Plein Air SmackDown is not really a contest at all. Instead of judges and rankings, all visitors are invited to Lake Harriet to observe the painters and admire their process. Instead of gold medals, participants and viewers are rewarded after hours of painting with hot dogs and cold drinks on Groveland’s stately porch. All artwork from the day will be available to purchase, so viewers can go home with an original painting or drawing of one of Minneapolis’ beautiful lakes. Hear firsthand from the artists about last year’s event.

16 Groveland and guest artists will set up their studios in the open-air surrounding Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. After observing artists at work, guests are invited to join the artists for a porch party and art sale back at the gallery. In the days leading to the event, a map of artists’ locations will be available on this event page.

This event is free to attend. The public is encouraged to visit and observe.
