Speaker: Tammy Stratz
City of Wausau Community Development Manager
Since October 2008, with the Development Department since January 1996

The Community Development Manager is responsible for the Community Development division. She oversees the Community Development Block Grant funds - ensuring all aspects of utilizing these funds meet all guidelines: from approval process, completion and submittals of all required reports, staffing

the Citizens Advisory Committee, reporting to City Council, completing Environmental Reviews, monthly account reconciliation and CDBG drawdowns, overseeing the revolving loan funds, operating the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program, assists the City with acquisition of properties, demolition of blighted properties, reconstruction of new housing units, and assists the Economic Development Manager and Development Director as needed.

She has managed the Lead Safe Homes Program since its inception. With the use of these funds, she was able to increase the City’s Lead Based Paint Abatement Contractor list. To date, she has successfully closed 16 projects with several more in the pipeline.

The City of Wausau recently received a Lead Paint Capacity Building Grant through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Healthy Homes Division. Tammy is the lead at the City for this grant. Marathon County Health Department is the program manager of which Tammy is working very closely with. We are anticipating this grant, along with the Lead Safe Homes grant, will make a huge impact for the City of Wausau as both grant’s guidelines are the same; however, eligibility for clientele is different.

Professional organizations and activities: National Community Development Association, Leadership Wausau Alumni Association, Habitat for Humanity Family Selection Committee, Get Smart Wausau Coalition, Wheels to Work Advisory Board member, CoVantage Credit Union’s CDFI Advisory Board member, Tammy has held a State of Wisconsin Lead Paint Risk Assessment license since 2000.
