A number of bills have been introduced in the Missouri state legislature which impact educational institutions, for example in relation to diversity. In response to the passage of these bills, the Joplin branch of the NAACP has organized a public panel discussion to provide an opportunity for Missouri state legislators to share their vision for the future of education in Missouri.
The event will take place at Joplin Public Library at 6pm on July 31 st 2025. The panel discussion is intended to reach across party lines and there will be a neutral moderator. The event is open to the public on a first come first seated basis and there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask the legislators questions.
Local media will be invited and the event livestreamed on Facebook.
The event is intended to be strictly non-partisan. Up to 3-4 panelists will each be allocated up to 10-minutes to outline their vision for the future of education in Missouri with a focus on the opportunities and barriers to grow educational opportunities and employment in the state. The moderator will ask the panelists a series of questions which will be provided in advance to enable the panelists to prepare their responses.
The audience will be encouraged to ask probing questions but to avoid partisan attacks. Finding common ground across party lines with reasoned debate is the key objective for this event. Follow-ups will be taken away by the moderator and responses published via NAACP media.
