FREE and recommended for ages 12 and older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Pre-registration is requested.

Join us for an enlightening hike along the historic 1844 route of American naturalist and writer Henry David Thoreau's ascent to the summit of Mount Greylock. This hike with a Park Interpreter features selected readings and visits to actual sites from Henry's account; a prelude to Thoreau's experience at Walden Pond.

Participants have the option for a one-way 5.5 mile route on the Bellows Pipe Trail to the summit, or round-trip 11-mile loop back to the Notch Road Gate. Hike is rated difficult due to strenuous elevation gain. Those interested in carpooling for a one-way hike, meet at starting location at 9:00am.

Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, bring water lunch, bug spray, sunscreen and trekking poles.

Meet at Notch Road Gate parking lot, near intersections of Reservoir Road, off Route 2, in North Adams,
